4th Grade Candy Shop

We studied the artist Wayne Theibaud in this mixed media project. We started with an activity that introduced the class to Pop art and the idea behind the popularity of everyday objects and why artists turned them into art. Each of the 4th graders drew images of candy bars using colored pencil. We talked about layering the colored pencil to give the image more depth and to make it more interesting. We designed our gumball machine next, then cut everything out and pasted it on a black background. The final step was to add another element to our image. We used the bottoms of pop bottles to make the gumball machines 3-D. The even have mini gumballs inside!
