Halloween!

For Halloween this year the kids were able to dress up as their favorite book characters. Fabulous costumes! We had Thing 1 and 2...
Mary Poppins and Peter Pan...
Huck Finn showed up...
Dorthy and Toto too!
Cat in the Hat!
Here's Old Mother Hubbard...
Tinkerbell...
And the Grouchy Lady Bug and The Moose from "If you give a Moose a Muffin"

3rd Fall Leaves

Just a few of the 3rd Grade finished Fall Leaves Projects. This was a quick and simple piece... Sharpie-drawn twigs layered with tissue paper and fancy brown paper that reminded us of fall.

What's Cookin'?

Kindergarten learned about primary colors (red, blue, yellow) lines (straight, curvy, zig-zag) and Shapes (circle, rectangle) in this scrumptious project. We started with the plate and added parts of the hamburger one by one. Delicious!

1st Grade Mixed Media Cars on Roads

For this project, we used lines, shapes, colors and patterns to complete our cars and roads. We used stamps for the background and shapes for the cars. Nice work 1st grade!

Happy Fall Everybody!

With some extra time in art class, the 5th, 3rd, 1st graders and kindergartners helped make this awesome fall display. Each class had a different task and section of the project. I was so impressed with the focus and hard work these kids put into this display!

Mixed Media with Kindergarten

I can't say how impressed I am with the kindergarteners this year! We just finished up our second project. We used paint, sponges, watercolor, crayon, oil pastels, scissors, glue and paper. We started by decorating the paper for the petals, then worked on the background, adding the vase and stems before finally finishing the project with our tissue paper and flower petals. Amazing work, kindergarten!

1st Grade Warm and Cool Colors

Wow! I was so impressed with the work these 1st graders did! We spent some time talking about warm and cool colors and what they reminded us of. One girl told the class "My picture reminds me of Red Lobster!" We used crayon and watercolor for the background. If a student used a cool background, they used cool colors for the cylinders on their paper. If they used a warm background, they stuck to warm colors for the cylinders. We took a whole class period to make cylinders, holding each for ten seconds, then dipping the bottom in glue and sticking it to the paper. They entire class created such a beautiful mix of warm and cool colors!

Confusing Cubism in 5th Grade

5th grade started the year off learning about Cubism and Cubist artists such as Picasso. Each fifth grader did 2 still life drawings of a bowl with fruit; one while standing up and one while sitting down. Each picture showed a different angle of the still life. Then, we cut up each picture using the same lines in the same places. We then had two puzzles to put back together. We mixed up the pieces and placed them back as one picture (hard to explain, harder to do!) 5th grade did an awesome job with these wonderful Cubist pieces!

3rd Grade Abstract Art

3rd grade just finished up their project on abstract fish. We used up some paper scraps from last year to bring these colorful creatures to life! I had each kid create a fish and a section of seaweed to line the bottom of the display.

Rockin' Out in 4th Grade!

My lovely 4th graders went to town on these fabulous instruments! We began the lesson by talking about how different kinds of songs had different types of feelings. A rockin' song wouldn't use calm colors and soft, wavy lines or show a violin, would it? No! An upbeat exciting song might use bright colors and an electric guitar. I showed the kids pictures of instruments and the rest was up to them. These turned out absolutely great!
